August 25, 2005 - Sunsets & Seasickness

We were picked up at 845am for the drive down to Puntarenas. On the way, we stopped at a butterfly garden that was full of blue morpho butterflies. They also had a very friendly pet toucan that liked to play with my hat. Their colors are amazing.
When we arrived at Puntarenas, we were actually greeted by Seahunter and their crew as they had just arrived and were docked. Seem like Seahunter is the bigger and better boat- they even had a BBQ grill. If we ever do this again, we’ll have to do the Seahunter. A tug boat ferried us out to the Underseahunter anchored about 30minutes away. Was hoping to get by with the Seabands but the moment I stepped onto the anchored Underseahunter, I knew that Seabands was not going to cut it. Downed 25mg of meclizine rapidly with my welcome punch and actually had to take 25mg more during the next 4 hours as Underseahunter hit the ocean. Spent that first afternoon on the sundeck ( in the shade of course) reading the Gekko manual then the Nitrox manual. We were lucky to see dolphins just within 4 hours of our trip. The dolphins clustered in the front of our bow playing in the currents for a good 15 minutes. There a beautiful sunset just before 6pm… Too bad Mike doesn’t know how to appreciate these beautiful things in nature. He barely just glanced up form his magazines to comment’ nice huh’ and left in the middle of the sunset to go inside. The sky was lit a brilliant fiery red. Not so much in terms of color changes ( no purples or pinks) but very red for a very long time before fading to brown and then going out to leave only darkness in the horizon. Since I could no longer use the horizon view to help with the seasickness, I had to go inside. Skipped dinner and stayed supine in bed the rest of the night.
